The House of Dreams
has caught my camera’s attention many times over the years. It is mentioned in Steve Shapiro’s book “Carmel A Timeless Place”. When Steve mentions it is a Comstock, I am off to City Hall to read about it.
It is not a Comstock, but with all its whimsical details it could well be.
The house sits on a quiet street several blocks from the beach.
The window box is always planted with red geraniums.
I love the false timbering and dove cote.
Even the attic vent is cute.
This summer, I notice that some remodeling is going on .
The front gate is ajar so I follow the winding brick walk to the door.
Bricks frame the weathered dutch door. The window glass is wavy and opaque.
The door knob is a small work of art.
Several days ago I see that it is listed in VRBO as a rental. The owners will rent it out by the month ( per Carmel regulations) for $7000-$10,000.
It is managed by Sanctuary Vacation Rentals. Now I have interior photos to show as I walk around the house.

If we were to open the door, this dining room would be to our left
Leading into the kitchen. It has Gaya Dream Quartzite granite countertops and a gas Viking stove with a griddle. Do I smell pancakes?
If we were to turn to the right, we would find the living room with it diamond paned windows
And cozy fireplace flanked by octagon windows.
There is a small deck built around this wonderful cypress.
I go around the house
This bathroom lies behind the bay window
And then to a small patio
With french doors opening to the Master Bedroom.
Wow, gorgeous linens. I saw them at Yves Delorme.
The listing shows 3 more bedrooms and another bath.
I leave my card in the door and retrace my steps out the front gate, my curiosity satisfied.
The house has been renamed “Nobody’s Perfect By-the-Sea”- hmmm!
